Every week or so I find random old photos or image attachments from ancient emails being being downloaded into a sub-folder called 'All Downloads' in the standard Gallery folder on my HTC One M9. These can range in number from about 15 to 150. I delete them, then a week or so later it happens again. How do I stop this from continually happening - what settings do I need to change and why is it dragging really old (from several years ago) photos into this folder, and where from? Any help in sorting this is very much appreciated.

I'm trying to debug my app, and I need more logs informations.
When I read radio buffer logs, I only found factual infos, like RIL_REQUEST_SIM_OPEN_CHANNEL, or RIL_REQUEST_SIM_TRANSMIT_APDU_CHANNEL. What I need is to know the content of those requests.
I'm already looking in the android source code (around ril.cpp, in platform_hardware_ril), but there is a lot of lines to read :0

What launcher are you using?

This is only for HTC device owners, as I am interested to see how many people prefer a third party launcher to HTC Sense.
I like the stock launcher very much, and so also have a license for Nova and Action Launcher.
I still prefer the stock launcher, mainly because of Blinkfeed and the clean UI. My close second option is Action Launcher, with its great customization options, especially the shortcut gestures.
If I were to choose alone on functionality, Action Launcher would be my choice. I just like the Sense UI a bit more.
What are your thoughts?

If you ever pay attention to the notices that your PC displays when it's installing updates, you may have noticed references to something called the Malicious Software Removal Tool. This has been part of Windows since Vista, and is designed to detect some of the most well-known instances of malware.

Windows automatically runs the tool regularly on your PC, quietly in the background. Normally you won't notice anything, but you'll get a warning notice if it finds anything suspicious in order that you can take further action.

Although the tool is useful, it doesn't always provide as much protection as it could. You'll only see the warnings about possible malware if you log in as an administrator, and not everyone does that. Also, the tool needs to be updated every month and Windows won't warn you if this fails to happen correctly.

Most crucially, the tool only runs a "quick scan" when it runs automatically in the background. Although it is also capable of running a much longer in-depth scan, this doesn't happen by default.

If you like to ensure that your PC is free of malware, it's a good idea to run the Malicious Software Removal Tool manually on occasion, instead of relying on Windows to take care of things. Running it manually has 2 main advantages. Firstly, it allows you to verify that the tool is up to date. Hello, I have a sort of a problem with my music player on my Samsung A3( old model. Not the one that came out in 2016). This problem consist in my music player that creates playlist randomly with strnge names with numbers and capital letters like FHURA400976 or sorta. Picked up the wireless charging back... using it continuously

I went and bought the wireless charging back. I'm committed to using it for a bit to see if the benefits outweigh the costs.

Benefits
1) wireless charging (this is big for me)
2) limit wear and tear on the USB port (meh)
3) some protection for the camera lens if dropped vs the style mod which sits flush (I'm running caseless)

The obvious tradeoff is the weight and thickness. It feels twice as thick and twice as heavy with it on, although that's not quite true.

Anyone using the wireless casting battery pack 24x7? If so why?

How do you get recorded videos to always start at the beginning?

I recorded some video for the first time on my LG G4 this past weekend. One clip is about 2min 30sec long and whenever someone else wanted to see it, the video would start playing where I ended it the last time. I want it to go back to the beginning each time. Also I can't get the on screen time line and pause/play controls to disappear once the video starts.

Is there a setting I need to change?

I recently upgraded my phone and after doing a factory reset passed my old one to my 12 year old son. He's not able to create a google account to access the play store as he's too young, so I used my account to download Pokemon Go for him. However, this now means that he's receiving my gmails on his phone which is far from ideal! Is there a way around this?

Galaxy S7 Edge Android Auto Not Connecting to Android Auto Ford 2016 F150

I have a factory installed system with sync 3 and I cannot seem to get the Android Auto to work at all. I plug my phone in the USB port and nothing happens. I can get the Bluetooth to work great every time. Phone calls work great, contacts are synced, text messages are displayed, music works great (i.e Google Play) but no Android Auto. Am i missing something stupid and i need to set up...? Also i have downloaded iHeart radio and that synced also. Not sure what i am missing.

"high quality audio recording" disappointing

I'm always quite interested in phones which can also record in loud environments. I think it's definitely a an underrated feature. I have to say though, these 2 examples are highly disappointing. It doesn't even come close to the Nokia 808, which in my opinion still is the gold standard for audio recording. It's crazy phones from 2012 still beats any phone these days for audio recording.

S7 Actives vs S7 Exynos

Hi,

I am confused between S7 Active and S7 with Exynos processor. Would really like to know what you guys think. These are some points that have kept me in this limbo:

1. Scratches and Scuffs: Plan to use this phone for atleast 2 years but I am afraid S7A will look really bad if I drop it multiple times as the outer material on S7A can be scuffed. I would rather put a good protective case on the regular S7 and change the case if it becomes unusable.

2. Batteries: One of the main reasons why S7A is popular is because of its huge battery (4000mAh compared to the S7's 3000mAh). However, I read in multiple blogs that S7 Exynos battery life is significantly better than the S7 with Snapdragon. Since S7A is only with Snapdragon, would like to know how it compares to S7 with Exynos.

3. Cost: I am able to find a new S7 with exynos for $550 on Amazon where as S7A is $800.

I am sure this question is relevant for those who are looking to buy an S7A. TIA.

Nexus 5x running Android 7.0
The phone was ringing ok.
Last week there was a update to 7 apps including some google ones.
I am not totally sure if the problem happened before the updates or after.
There is no bullet to drag to the right. It simply does not exist.
Putting my finger on the volume line does nothing. There is no green dot to drag.

If you want to create or edit a web page, you need to know the basics of HTML and CSS. The former is the language in which you write the content of your page, making reference to various formatting "tags" such as headings, lists, text emphasis and so on. The latter, CSS, is the file which defines the actual appearance of those tags. For example, that a top-level heading should be in a Times New Roman font, 39 pixels high, in dark grey, 71 pixels from the left and 29 pixels from the top.

Free HTML/CSS editors for Windows are few and far between. Microsoft Expression Web, which is now classed as abandonware, is freely available but hasn't been updated since 2012. And it's a fairly hefty download, as well as a difficult package to learn.

So here's another option. Thimble, from Mozilla, is an online HTML/CSS editor that runs in your browser. Like other editors, the screen is split into 2 panels so that you can see the code on one side and the actual page on the other. You can create and link multiple files. Once your page is finished, you can publish it online or download the code to use on your own site.

If you don't currently run a web site or blog, but you want to teach yourself HTML and CSS, this is a great way to get started. Read More

is the PIxel's AMOLED panel equal or better than what Samsung uses for its own S7 or Note 7?

the reason I'm asking is that I've seen the Samsung AMOLED panels that Samsung sells to other manufacturers. At the same size and viewed side-by-side, the ones on Samsung's own phones(S7 or Note 7) are clearly superior. It's pretty obvious that Samsung, like most Korean and Japanese manufacturers, reserve the higher-end parts for their own products.

There's no word on where Google or HTC sourced the AMOLED panels used on the Pixel and Pixel XL... guess I'll just have to wait until my pre-ordered Pixel XL is in my hands and compare it to my S7 and Note 7? :( How is Google's return policy on phones?

Hello all, i am using the Samsung Music Player and i am very happy with the interface. I have corrected my music tags and album covers recently using AutomaticTag but i also want to add lyrics in each of my songs. Do you know an app that can do that? I have tried the Star Music Editor and it is just fine but i had to search and add music lyrics one at a time. Hopefully, there is an app that is better in adding music lyrics than that.

FYI - i dont want to use another app to view lyrics like Musixmatch. I want to add lyrics to my songs and see it if needed while listening using the default Samsung Music App.

Additional interaction is possible by button bar, which is between two panes, and is fully configurable.

Galaxy S7 SD Card Unmounts

I don't get notified or anything of the sort but sometimes when I go into my Gallery the pictures I take and store on my SD Card don't show up. Also, I set Spotify to save to SD Card which it does, but then it goes back to the Device Storage when the SD Card unmounts itself.

It seems to be completely random. The first time I found out it was because I was taking a video and my phone said I was low on memory which I knew I shouldn't be. Low and behold, it had switched to saving on the device and didn't even know the SD card was in there. I've tried other memory cards and the same thing happens.

Will the Verizon Pixel work on other carriers?

I know it's bootloader locked, but I can get a deal w/ a family upgrade on Verizon. I would want to actually use the phone on AT&T. Think it'll be carrier locked to Verizon?

Hi! You may have noticed that there have been a bunch of Best X posts in recent weeks — Best Verizon Phones, Best Android Phone Under $400, Best Rugged Phone — and wondered why none of them have comments enabled.

Those posts are part of our new AC Buyer's Guide, which launches today after hundreds of hours of work from the entire Android Central team.

This guide is for you — obviously— but it's also for your friends and family, people who aren't as familiar with the ever-changing Android phone ecosystem as perhaps you are. And I assume you are familiar, since you're here.

The reason we disabled comments on those posts is because they are what we call evergreen, constantly updated to reflect the latest and greatest devices on the market. To leave comments open would be to open up future you to comments from today that don't reflect the content on the page. As a result, we're going to be encouraging you to discuss the choices here, in this forum. Eventually, we'll have sub-forums for all of the various categories, but for now feel free to post something, to make suggestions, and to offer your own choices for the best phones in various categories. We promise to read each one, and to take them into account, though we can't promise they'll change our minds.

Here's why: We've been working overtime to find the right phones for each category, and feel that, as of today, we have the best and most accurate representation of the vast Android ecosystem. We stand by our recommendations, all of which were discussed at length amongst the AC team.

Of course, there are some caveats to to point out. Much of the buyer's guide content is geared towards the U.S. market, which makes up the majority of our audience but is by no means the only audience. In future iterations of the guide, we're going to be expanding our recommendations to include other regions and more categories.

And because this is our first go at it, there are going to be some bugs and inconsistencies. Please point those out when you see them, because they help us make the product better for you and the people in your lives.

SD insufficient space error after MM update

Just updated today toMM(yeah finally) but when I try to move apps to the SD it comes up insufficient space even though I have 30gb. All was going well for the first 5 apps or so then just stopped. I have tried cleaning cache , no joy. I have also tried it using appmgr lll.

And ideas are welcome

Can I add carrier_config on Android with applett or apk installation ?

Hi everyone !

Everything is on the title.
I need to be able to add carrier configuration on Android system.
I have found the native lists, like in source code "android/platform/frameworks/opt/telephony/master/./src/java/com/android/internal/telephony/MccTable.java", or in "android/platform/packages/apps/CarrierConfig/master/./assets/*".
But I would rather do that without compile my own custom ROM...

It happened. I was longboarding to my sister to buy her something to eat and my phone fell out of my pocket. It shattered. The crack starts right on top of the proximity sensor so now I can't use my phone unless I aim it in direct light first because it thinks it's in my pocket. I tried recalibrating it but that didn't help. Is there any way to completely disable the proximity sensor from the service menu? Please help. I can't use my phone unless I aim it in sunlight first. And I'm running on marshmallow ls991zvc so rooting isn't an option, and neither is flashing to lollipop (antirollback) thanks

Ways to Create more Space/Increase Speed on my Samsung Galaxy S5

My wife and I both have Samsung Galaxy S5 16 GB which are pretty useless at this point. When we originally purchased them we add 32 GB external cards which worked great. Since then many apps will now not allow us to download them to the external card causing issues with speed and overall storage. Is there a way to improve our current Samsung Galaxy S5s? For instance is there a way to delete all the bloatware off of them creating more storage space? Right now I can't even add any new apps because of lack of space (and I don't have games on it).

I did some more investigation and after moving some apps to my SD card I currently am using 12.90 of 16 GB of storage. Besides 5.46 GB of system memory (which I'm assuming can't be decreased), my apps are using 6.75 GB of internal data. U used Datasize explorer and here are a list of my biggest culprits:

Samsung Quality Issues, Paint Peeling On S7 Edge Home Button?!?!?!

The home button on my s7 edge randomly one day when I woke up I noticed that the paint on it began peeling and had a scratch.
It looks ugly and horrible, is this normal?
Will Samsung Warranty cover and replace it.

Since last update all received text photos show up as a mountain & sun clipart.

I have to save to gallery any photo someone texts to me, then open the gallery to see what they sent.
This is recent since last update less than 7 days ago. I already thought it was because I had too many photos, so I deleted ALL of them. I also did a restart. What else?

Water resistance comment

So I know I am beating a dead horse here but this used to be the main feature I looked for when purchasing a phone but this is now going to change.

I have bought wayyyy too many phones. Every single Nexus. Almost all Sony's up to the Z line. G3,4,5. Sammy s4 through 7... Honor 5x one plus 1 and 2... I know I know I'm like alot of others here.

One thing always drew me back to certain phones and that was water resistance.

My main used phones other than Nexus phones have been Z2 to Z3C then to S6 active to the Z5C from there I now have a CAT S60 and an S7 for my work phone.

Out of all of these phones the S7 is the only one that has not failed under water and that is because it has only been submerged two times.

Z3c died after 5 minutes in the pool in under 2 foot of depth Z2, same fate on the 3rd or 4th time in water. S6 active died in a rainstorm while hiking (it was in my pocket) Z5c lived through 2 pool uses but the microphone was never the same. The S60 which is the most "waterproof" phone out.. Well I have already had it replaced by Cat once due to water ingress in 8 inched of water.... The S7 has been submerged once or twice by my wife in the bath and still works fine. For a while when plugging in it thought everything was a GEAR VR headset though...

What am I getting at?

Water resistance is great on paper but it just doesn't work with phones... I have tried and tried and tried .. Always with bad results. So now I am done with it.

This is just my experience with waterproofing, and it may look nice and feel good to have but for now on I will just ignore it as it never seems to work right for me.
