Is it safe to perform a WIPE CACHE PARTITION on an UNLOCKED HTC One M7?

Posted: 16 Sep 2016 01:49 PM PDT

Any advice/suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

My problem ultimately stems from the fact that my keyboard has somehow been disabled by some errant app, most likely Google's Tap-to-Talk function, about a week ago now. Literally out of nowhere. I disabled the general Google App the very day the tap-to-talk function started overriding the HTC Sense keyboard everywhere, and then noticed that neither the keyboard nor the tap-to-talk function were working. I just thought that I could simply restart my phone and any glitch would be removed and my keyboard would return to its normal functioning. I was completely wrong; I haven't been able to use my phone ever since, simply because the keyboard does not come up as usual for me to enter my password, so that ever since I've been completely locked out. As far as I know, I don't think that there's any way of overriding the password entry function so that I could simply get into my phone to try to fix the problem that way--but if there is any way, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Anyway, I have already chatted with a tech from Google Play, and when I saw that nothing worked out down that avenue, I talked with two different HTC support techs. I explained my problem to the last one and said that I would like to perform a Wipe Cache Partition, but as soon as she found out that my phone is Unlocked with S-ON, she said that there's a 50/50 chance my phone could become bricked from performing the cache wipe. She did say that it's all relative to the case, and for some, everything works out fine, while for others, not so much, so she went ahead and created a ticket for me to speak later with the higher-level HTC Developer techs. I have also already visited an actual tech place only to discover that the 2 guys working there primarily specialize in hardware and are unwilling to try any software-related fixes, because of liability issues and probably also because they just haven't got a clue.

My primary concern is losing all the data stored on my phone, because it is still in working order, and so I feel like I have much more of a chance of somehow retrieving it NOW than if I were to proceed with the cache wipe, have it brick on me, and then be forced to figure something out with a completely broken phone.

So the main question is whether it really is that risky for me to perform a wipe cache partition, because after researching it all over the Internet, I came to the conclusion that it is a safe procedure that should not damage any personal files or information. Now I have found out that is not the case for unlocked phones, which all those tutorial articles fail to mention.

Please, if anyone knows, PLEASE tell me if it would be safe for me to perform this cache wipe on my unlocked phone. But also, if you just have ANY relevant advice to share on this general matter, please let me know.

I have already perused a pretty large quantity of sources all over the net and am growing increasingly worried at the lack of options to get my phone back into working order for me to actually be able to use it again. I decided to turn to this site's forum as a kind of near-last resort, because I am growing pretty panicked and desperate.

Aren't popping up unless I'm on Facebook or I deliberately open the chat head. Also there is no notification showing I got a message on my s6 edge plus. Help I've checked all the notification setting and chat heads setting.

How do I delete a disabled gmail accoun off my phone?

My old work email has been disabled. When I try to log in to delete the gmail account I cannot as the account has been disabled! There is a persistent error message saying account action required that I can't get rid of as it requires me to sign in to a disabled account! Any suggestions?

Document Transfer PC to Moto X (2013)

Posted: 16 Sep 2016 01:38 PM PDT

Device: Moto X 2013 (XT1060) Lollipop 5.1.

I'm having no success transferring document files (dosx, xlsx, pdf) from PC to the Moto X via USB. Photo files (jpg) transferred to the Gallery folder and opened without problem.

The "Send to" procedure seemed to work; inspection of each device folder told a different story. The files were not present.

The files are present in the Download folder using the "drop and drag" transfer procedure. However, they will not open. Other documents in this folder acquired from the Internet open fine.

Any thoughts about USB transfer of documents to the Moto XT1060 will be appreciated

Will any USB C cable/adapter work?

Posted: 16 Sep 2016 01:24 PM PDT

I purchased both MicroUSB to USB C adapters and a USB C cable - I cannot get the phone to charge or sync with either. At best, using the cable my Z would say charging, but after an hour, it was the same battery level as before, if not lower. Am I stuck having to buy an OEM charger? Can I even use portable battery packs?

unlocked US S7 question

I've been thinking about upgrading to the unlocked S7.
Does anyone know if Samsung Pay works on the unlocked version such as those at Best Buy?

Are you getting a refund but waiting to get a N7 again?

Posted: 16 Sep 2016 01:11 PM PDT

Are you taking a refund on your N7, but waiting to buy a N8 again?

Are you waiting because you are worried there might be new problems with the replacements that may have been rushed through production? (Sure the battery will be better, but could other quality issues emerge from the rush to make these replacements?).

Do you stand a better chance of having a problem free phone when replacement and new phone demand falls off, especially since the phone won't be a new model in a couple of months?

Or are you waiting to see if there is a reduction in price in a month or two, especially if demand falls as is expected by many, including Samsung's own accountants.

(I know most loyal people on this forum think the demand for this phone will remain high, but elsewhere such optimism just isn't there.) Even Samsung can't be that optimistic that they are considering bringing out the S8 earlier than next spring.)

If the demand isn't there and there is a price drop, would you worry about losing even more when selling your phone down the road? Wouldn't it be better to see if there is a price drop, before buying, in order to cut your resale losses?

Record Video Directly to Laptop through USB or WiFi

Posted: 16 Sep 2016 01:11 PM PDT

I want to make a large time-lapse video using my smartphone but the max storage I have for it is 8gb. Also the FAT32 format wont let me make a file larger than 4gb.

Is it possible to connect the phone to a laptop with a USB cable or WIFI and have the video save directly to my laptops HDD bypassing the internal/sd card storage entirely?
