S4 i9505 with i9500 screen heating up

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 01:38 PM PDT

Hello, my screen recently broke for no reason so I decided to send it to fix, I'm from Argentina and the usual model is the i9500 not the i9505, I got it back and I noticed that when I got it it was at 0%, something that never happened before, I wasn't aware of the wrong screen at moment, I sent it back and the man tried to fix it but no luck, he gave back my money but I have the wrong screen still. I think that is the problem, can anyone confirm it?

How to really shut down my android phone

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 01:32 PM PDT

I have a HTC One, after a recent update, I noticed after the phone is shut down then booted up, the apps I had running before I shut the phone down are still open versus before the update, after a reboot or a shut down then boot up, no apps would be running. I get the list of running apps by double tapping on the bottom right button.

I remember I had a similar situation with a previous android phone, and there was a setting where when you shut down the phone, it doesn't really shut down, more like hibernate, so the apps are still kept open. After I switched off the setting, then reboot, the apps were longer open, which is what I want.

I don't remember what the setting was, and I went through all the setting options on my phone. Does anyone know what it is?

Updated Android on my S7 Edge - 98% RAM usage and glitchy system

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 01:20 PM PDT

Got a notification for a new update for my Android system some days ago, and finally decided to update today.

However, after the update succeeded, I got greeted by 98+% RAM usage (78mb free of 4GB), sluggish performance, Android system draining 41% battery, Samsung keyboard keep disappearing and Wi-Fi struggling to keep a stable connection. It's been like this for about 3 hours now.

Even after a reboot it returns to the 98% usage and constant battery draining. Tried to close all apps, force shutdown on all my normal apps using RAM (Snapchat, Messenger etc) but they just reappear with the same RAM usage. The phone ends up being almost unusable becuase of the performance.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to let it work trough the night, might be background installing and management of some sort after the update. Don't want to do a factory reset, as it would take ages to download all my apps again. But if this is the last resort, then okay, but from my experience this too won't fix anything as the update still is installed in the system.

Build number: MMB29K.G935FXXU1BP12

Core version: 3.18.14-9113173

And obviously Android 6.0.1

Is there any way I can save my Samsung Galaxy S4 that dropped on concrete?

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 01:13 PM PDT

While I was crossing the road I accidentally let my phone loose from my hand and dropped it on concrete, more specifically a speed bump on the road. I picked it up and saw no cracks or major scratches. After a while is when I noticed I couldn't turn it on. Once I did manage to turn the screen on the whole thing had white spots all over, which turned the whole screen white, and eventually started looking purple. The phone still vibrates as if I gotten a message, and the buttons still light up but I can't see anything. Is there any way I can fix it and get it working again? Thank you in advance for any advice!

Anyone else do this: Daddy Tech Support

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 12:46 PM PDT

I realized the other day, that in addition to all my passwords, I have to remember those for the wife, the youngest daughter, and occasionally the oldest. I have to monthly (sometimes weekly) have to check all the laptops for updates, scan for malware, scan for viruses, etc. I also have to answer questions" "Daddy! The internet is not working!" "Honey! This file will not open!", "Daddy, why can't I install "X" software? All my friends have it!" "Honey, iTunes is not letting me add money to my account!" "Daddy!, my sound card is not working!"

My oldest who is at college called me in a panic because WIndows 10 on her new (read expensive) laptop showed no sound card installed. I walked her through a fix, but then her wireless went down, so we fixed that, then she needed instructions on something else. My youngest was yelling at the same time that she could not open a .pub file from school, so I had to go down, and show her how to open it in Libre Office (I refuse to pay for MS Publisher to use 10-12 times a year), and Libre Office draw works perfectly. Then she forgot how to do something else so I spent more time in "Daddy Tech Support".

My wife lost her iTunes password, so I spent more time fixing that issue. My youngest needed my help with.... So how many of you guys (and gals) out there are the Tech Support department at your house? I don't mind, but it really pisses me off when after everything I do one of the kids goes and downloads something that fouls things up. The oldest was looking for movies and got onto a hinky site, that infected her laptop with a 'bot, that took me two hours to get rid of from her laptop.

Email is a biggie, since the wife complains that she cannot get all her emails in one spot, and I downloaded, installed, and configured Thunderbird for her so she could check her email. Then she complained that it was..."confusing". *sigh* *groan*. My response at that point: "Too bad, suck it up". Right now I am doing a backup of the wife's laptop since she refuses to do it, claiming it is "my job". My wife's laptop is positively Victorian Era, so I think for Christmas I am going to get her a new HP i5 laptop from Best Buy with 12 gb ram, and 1tb HD, and 1920x1080 screen.

Well, I guess that is what I get paid to do. :)

flashlight doesn't go off

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 12:40 PM PDT

The flashlight goes on when I hit the torch via lock screen or notification shade but won't turn off when pressed even though it's shown to be turned off on the icon. Anyone else experience this? Using the latest good lock app seems to have been an issue since the last update.

Google Messenger Question (SMS)

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 12:38 PM PDT

The 'Error Code' on the bottom of the text message through message details of the sent sms when it goes over the character limit. What does that mean? Because I also have 'delivery reports' ON and it gives me the check mark that the destination phone number did receive it and the recipient replies as well but that 'Error Code' seems odd. txt.png

Even with this phone, BB is effectively dead

Posted: 29 Sep 2016 12:30 PM PDT

Blackberry is dead. Get used to it, get over it. As to the date where it was pronounced with a terminal illness, I think the diagnosis was the release date of BB10, with NO APP system, unlike iOS, and Android. Getting out of the phone business is a bad idea, but no one other than BB fanboys and some governments and corporations buys them anymore. More and more governmental entities are going iPhone. The Secret Service uses a Windows phone now, not a blackberry. Corporations are going iOS, or Android in droves. Let us contribute to BB's tombstone, and regrettably, move on. There are now only really Samsung, Apple, and LG as major players. HTC is going, Google phones are no longer affordable, Motorola has lost the magic, so it is really a Samsung/Apple world out there. And I really dislike both. I can't blame Chen, since I think he knew when he took over that RIM/Blackberry was terminal at the time he took control of the ship. I think he was just doing the best he could to keep the patient on life support.

Blackberry was too slow to react to the new market forces and desires, like the horse collar trade in the opening days of the automobile, or other companies/tech sectors which were just not innovative and forward looking. If perhaps, Blackberry had gotten on the app bandwagon, if Blackberry O/S 10 had support for more modern processors/chipsets then maybe it might have survived. I think that the abandonment of the classic 9900 form factor also hurt blackberry. The Z30 was a good idea, but crippled by the app ecosystem, and older hardware. The same goes for the Classic. Like it or not, sound Flowers of the Forest for Blackberry, and throw a clod of dirt on the grave as we slowly walk away from a once great company, which had a once great product.
