Will You Fork Over the Cash?

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 02:04 PM PDT

Two "rumors" (but reported on multiple sites) circulating about the Note 7 is 1) the cost, and 2) the variants. There are websites stating the Verizon Note 7 will be "watered down" to 4 GB RAM. I'm a Verizon customer, and I feel like I'm getting the short end of the stick. All other carriers will sell the Note 7 with "rumored" 6 or "rumored" 7 GB RAM. That's my first gripe.

My second issue is the price. Choose whichever website you wish, and costs are north of £900 / $1000. What would really send me off of the deep end is if Verizon sold its variant (watered down) for the same price as the other big three carriers. Also, I'm trying to maintain a rational train of thought and really put the cost into prospective.

I have a Samsung laptop with an i5 processor, a 1 terabyte hard drive, and 8 GB RAM. The cost was about $600. During a recent visit to Best Buy I noticed that there are laptops with an i7 processor for sale under a grand.

I remember back in the late 90's up until maybe 2003 a phone that cost $199.99 was a BIG purchase with many people opting for a free Nokia. Fast forward to 2016 and cellphones are actually exceeding a grand. I'm 36 years old and probably older than most individuals on this site, but even ten years ago, the idea of dropping one thousand dollars on a cellphone was so outlandish no one gave it a second thought. No way a phone will EVER be that expensive.

The advent of fast processors, loads of memory, lots of RAM, and the plethora of other bells and whistles one can expect from today's smart phone justifies a hike in cost, but morally, I don't think I'm willing to fork over a grand on a phone. I think the Note 7 is simply awesome (aside from the "rumored" Verizon variant).

If the Verizon rumor proves true, I will not invest in the Note 7. Instead, the two rumored Nexus devices are (again rumored) supposedly getting the SoC 821 which is a 10% efficiency increase over the 820 processor. The Nexus devices will likely cap off at 4 GB RAM but the price will likely be far less expensive than a new Note 7. I'm looking to replace my laptop with one that has newer hardware and an i7 processor. $1000 would be my expenditure cap on a new computer unless a better model was on some great sale; then I'd pay a little extra.

So my question to the members of this page is, "Will the speculated cost of the Note 7 deter you from buying one, or is having the latest and greatest equipment on the market more important than cost? I really want to hear from AC members if cost has become an irrelevant element in buying the best of the best in an ever-changing environment where the evolution of cellphone technology simply advances rapidly making that "beast" you bought for a grand obsolete a year later. I can't convince myself the cost is justified.

Last Modified date not matching Windows?

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:59 PM PDT

Weird issue here,

I moved files from one SD card to another.
The creation date and modified date stayed intact in Windows.

On my Galaxy everything seemed to shift by 7 hours on the new memory card.

Once again, Windows and Mac OSX display the correct modified time but Android does not.

Does Android modify not match Windows?

Can I move camera widget from S4 to S7

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:59 PM PDT

I have upgraded from a Samsung S4 to S7. The camera is missing the excellent eraser mode which takes several photos of the same image and removes anything that moved between shots. Great for travel shots. Is there a way to move the camera widget (?) from the S4 to S7?

Turbo 2 Destroying Battery Within 3 Hours

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:49 PM PDT

Hi all, I recently purchased a T2 from Swappa, and loved it until about a week ago.

Seemingly out of the blue (started around noon on Saturday), the phone started rapidly draining battery. I am getting approximately 2.5-3 hours from a full charge, even when the phone sits idle on my desk. The phone also heats up to 100-110*f on the rear of the device while this is occurring. Turbopower charging is extremely slow due to the fact that the phone is using power almost as fast as it's charging.

Power cycling the phone has no effect. The only thing I have found that does help is turning on Airplane Mode for about 15 minutes, then switching it off. Once I do this, the battery life will return to normal, but out of the blue, the device will start heating up and chomping battery again.

The main power hog appears to be Google Services. Before you ask, I've cleared the cache and data for Google Services, Google Play Store, and Google Services Framework. I also performed a factory reset on the device on Monday night, and it didn't help matters at all. The only way to improve it is to enable and later disable Airplane Mode.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to alleviate the issue? I lean heavily on my phone for work, and this makes it pretty difficult.

How to update my HTC One m7 to Kitkat

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:39 PM PDT

My friends HTC m7 is kitkat, mines is not. I tried to go to regular system update but only found what was called at&t software update. And it won't update.

The phone is an unlocked at&t HTC m7 on metro pcs network. Is that the reason it won't update?

Battery life since update.

Galaxy S6 Edge screen won't rotate

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:28 PM PDT

As of about a week or two ago my Galaxy S6 Edge's screen stopped rotating. Restarted the phone, updated, made sure the rotation was enabled, everything but still nothing gives.

I've read a lot online about the problem, and it seems that the gyroscope sensor might be what's causing the problem. So far the only solution that I've come across was a hard factory reset, but even then I'm not even too sure if it will fix the problem.

Was wondering if you guys had run into any similar trouble and were able to get around it. I'd like to try everything before having to go through a whole factory reset.

Appreciate any and all sorts of input!

How Can I Fix Intermittent Battery Drain?

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:28 PM PDT

Okay, so I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 currently running OS version 6.0.1

After the initial upgrade to the latest OS (about 1 month ago) I suddenly had drastically reduced battery life (down to 35% within 5 hours of unplugging with minimal use) and uninstalled 3rd party apps until it stopped.

A few weeks later I slowly started reinstalling apps so I could gain some utility back on my phone and was unable to reproduce the issue.

Then suddenly it started again, after uninstalling ALL 3rd party apps the battery was still draining incredibly rapidly, though not in safe mode.

So I performed a factory reset, and slowly installed apps back, with all of my 3rd party apps installed I saw the battery drop to 83% in the 10 hours of my day (with average use) so I thought all was well.

The VERY NEXT DAY however my battery dropped to 54% within 5 hours with very low usage. Today it's happening again with ZERO APPS OPEN and my phone dropping from 100% to 88% within an hour.

Does anyone have ANY idea what this could be? I know Kies 3 told me that there had been an issue with the update and asked me to do an "emergency restore" which wouldn't work, and I was told I had to do the restore through Smart Switch.

The restore option wasn't even available on Smart Switch however, so I'm not certain what it is I'm meant to do.

Also Samsung customer support told me to take it to a Samsung service center, the closest one to me is nearly completely accross the country, so that's not an option.

FitBit

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:19 PM PDT

I am looking at getting a FitBit Charge or FitBit Charge HR. My bluetooth has given me connection issues with the Wahoo Fitness app and been a complete nightmare with the DDP Yoga Now app (rarely connects).

Has anyone used a FitBit watch with their Nexus 5X and what has been your experience?

Sleep monitoring is the aspect of the watch that is most important.

4GLTE or 4G But Nothing Else

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:17 PM PDT

My mother has Cricket service and has commented that she either has 4GLTE or 4G but no 3G, 2x, etc. If her 4G data drops off, for example, it does not go to 3G, 2X, etc....it goes to no data at all. This can happen when in a good coverage area. She has 5G of high speed LTE and never goes over that limit.

The customer rep said that her data will not drop down to 3G coverage and all she will get is either 4GLTE or 4G? Is this true or is the rep full of it?

Her phone is the ZTE Grand X Max+.

Do Not Disturb/Priority Only Settings

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:11 PM PDT

I recently "upgraded" from a Moto X 2nd generation (broken screen) to a Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge, which got the Marshmallow update just a few days ago.

One of the biggest disappointments in switching phones is that Samsung doesn't seem to have included Android's updated sound status feature, with "Priority Only" and "Do Not Disturb" settings. On my Moto X, my phone would automatically go into "Do Not Disturb" or "Priority Only" when my calendar showed I was in a meeting. Now I need to remember to turn off the sound on my phone. Not the biggest deal in the world, all things considered, but a huge annoyance.

Is there a different way to do this? I've also looked for apps that would do it but can't find one.

Where is my default music player?

Posted: 14 Jul 2016 01:03 PM PDT

Ok so I just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 and I can not find the Music Player that my old phones had. My old phones were a Samsung Galaxy S3 and an old boost mobile s2 or something. They both had a Music Player installed in which the icon was a circle with blue on the outside and white on the inside. There was a blue play button in the middle of the circle and a green musical note towards the bottom right of it as well. It was just named "Music" Since this app came automatically with the phone I can't seem to download it or transfer it anywhere since it isnt an "Installed App". The only reason I am complaining is because my phone came with Google Play Music and Samsung Milk Music. I have no idea how Samsung Milk Music works and Google Play Music is really complicated to use and I can't even create playlists properly. The point is I really liked the default music player from Samsung galaxy s3 and I want it back again but I do not know how to get it.
