Just wanted to share what a rep at my local VZW store told me today.

I've been having less-than-ideal call quality (at my house) compared with my previous phones and went in to talk about it. The rep said they had recently received an email bulletin advising that some VZW areas still can't handle Advanced Calling, including where I live near Portland ME, and that customers in those areas should turn the feature off. I told him I had tried toggling HD calling on and off in my Settings menu and it didn't make a difference. He said you have to turn it off on both the phone and on the network side. Unfortunately that means WiFi calling doesn't work either, which in my case doesn't matter because he hooked me up with a free Samsung Network Extender. I happened to walk into the store on a day they were running some kind of special.

Good enough phone to hold over till next Nexus phones?

I currently have an HTC 10. I love it. However I feel I can use a Nexus 5X to hold me over until the next Nexus line comes out. I had a 6P and absolutely loved it but the size began to get to me. I have people interested in buying my 10 for 430-450 range, so to save money I debated to pick up the 5X and sell my 10.

Can I have anyone's opinion? How has the device been working with recent updates or even with the latest N build.

We have 60 company android devices that are all loaded with the same google account. Once in a while something happens that kicks every single phone off of the google account and the password must be reentered before accessing Gmail, Playstore, etc. So far I have not found any pattern to these occurrences - sometimes it will go several weeks without happening, and sometimes only several days. I have also noticed that the personal Google accounts have no problems, only the company account. What could cause this?

If you're having a problem on the internet, you need to know which browser you're using before you can start tracking down the cause of the problem. But you may not necessarily know all the details.

If you're trying to help someone track down a web-related issue, you need to know about their browser. But they may not necessarily know all the details.

That's why a clever site called What's My Browser impressed me when I came across it recently. Just surf there (from any browser!) and it tells you which browser and operating system you're using. It will tell you if the browser is out of date and, if so, will give you a direct link to the update. It'll tell you whether Java, Javascript, Flash etc are active and/or enabled. And much more besides.

Am I the only one who finds the vibration is Galaxy S7 extremely annoying?

Hello

I have just moved from Galaxy S6 to S7. I love the new phone. However, there is one detail that totally ruins my user experience. The vibration.

I find the vibration annoying to say the least. No matter what intensity I choose, the vibration is kind of resonating, it spreads unpleasantly throughout the phone. This concerns notifications, keybord haptic feedback, the navigation keys. It's not a matter of intensity or other settings. I feel it is basically hardware, the vibration rotor/engine works this way. It buzzes and resonates.

I checked on my S6 and vibration is flawless, when I type there is a short, solid feedback, no buzzing. Same for notifications.

I also checked this on S7 Edge and there is no such issue!

I am wondering if this is a common issue, my phone is fauly or maybe I'm just going crazy?

I'll be grateful for any feedback.

Music: Split Album Symbol Issues with ID-8, Missing Album Art Without it. Fix?

I've been having this issue since getting my first Android Device, a OnePlus 3. I love the device, but this music issue is proving to be a very persistent thorn in my side.

When I tag an album with ID8, it fixes the problem with split albums due to symbols, but removes album art.

When I apply album art in any way that sticks, however, it splits the album once again.

Can anyone help?

Screen overlay solution for most people

It's the productivity tab which is causing the problem most of the time. Disable the screen overlay in that program. Then you can make all the changes you want. The you will have to reactivate the screen overlay for the productivity tab in order to use.

When using the Facebook app on my wife's new G4 Plus, twice now we've had an issue where clicking any video just goes to a spinning wheel but the video never plays. After restarting the phone, all was fine, but now a day or two later, the same thing is happening. Is this a known issue for anyone? It's a pain to restart the phone just to watch a video within the FB app. Anybody know what's causing this or a fix? Thanks.

Hi! First let me say I'm a proud brand-new owner of a Graphite 6P on Project Fi. So far I'm incredibly happy with both! I discovered a glitch today with regard to Google/Android Central. When I did a Google search for something, an AC Forums linked came up. I clicked the link, and it was a series of false starts...nothing opened. I clicked another link to an article in the Android Central app, and my phone opened the app and then the site in a Chrome window. When opening other links via Google (e.g., Yelp) there doesn't seem to be the same issue.

So...my question is, would this be a glitch within Chrome, Android, or is it something else I'm not thinking of. Thanks in advance for all your input!!!

Using power button to lock screen

Go to settings, lock screen and security, secure lock settings, secured lock time. if you choose the first selection, then under Secure Lock Settings it states that "Screen will locked instantly with the power key or screen timeout". I get that. But if you choose any other selection under Secured Lock Time, the power button no longer locks the screen. So my question is there any other menu on the settings which allows me to use the power button independent of the screen timeout function. If I have the secured lock time to 30 minutes and 5 minutes later I want to lock the screen, I cannot easily do it. There should be a lock switch independent of the screen timeout...

Does anybody else's camera on their note 5 make a sizzle (yes SIZZLE) sound when it first opens up?

Gear S2 missed call notifications over WiFi?

My wife just lost her Galaxy S6. As we were searching for it (at home) she received missed call notifications to her Gear S2 smartwatch.

So, if we know the phone only receives notifications over Bluetooth, we know it's in the house somewhere.

Otherwise the phone, at some remote location, sent the missed call notification over cellular data and the watch picked those up when it connected to the WiFi.

We obviously hope it's the former, so can anyone confirm

Does anyone know:
Can an S2 smartwatch pick up missed call notifications via WiFi, otmr must it be connected via Bluetooth?

Any help appreciated

Has anyone else noticed that the maps now show less details, side roads are disappearing and tracks in parks are also disappearing.

I'm wondering if they are doing this to ease server pressure but its frustrating that rather than fix issues they just seam to be introducing more

A couple of days ago I wrote here about a way to quickly check the health of your hard disk. Although the technique works just fine, it gives you only the information about the current status. And although the status might be reported as healthy, this can be misleading. For example, if Windows detects a problem with your drive and then automatically fixes it, the drive will appear healthy even though the underlying problems still remain.

For a more reliable test of your hard disk, check out Crystal Disk which is available in a variety of formats. The easiest option is to download the portable version of the Standard Edition, which is 4.6 MB. The program is malware-free according to VirusTotal and Web of Trust. Read More

Hey guys,

I've noticed that at some point during the day the gesture controls in my Led View Cover stop working, so I can't answer calls or shutdown the alarm by swiping across the front cover anymore. Haven't been able to reproduce it with certainty, but I think it started after the latest Android update.

Initially I thought it started after using it with the Samsung wireless fast charger, but that doesn't seem to be the cause.

Anyone have noticed this problem?

I have a Samsung Note 4 phone, use Google calendar and Calendar Snooze to get varying lengths of snooze time. The appointments I enter on my calendar show up on my Moto 360 at the reminder time, but the watch doesn't give me the option to snooze without doing it on the phone. Ive done a few searches and found a bit of info but I have not found a way to get my "hotspot" to work. My phone is not rooted. I have an unlimited data with VZ. I do not wish to "donate" more $ to VZ as they have already raised my rates....I suppose to try to get me to quit my unlimited data...

Wi-Fi Option Issues

My Samsung Galaxy S6 Wi-Fi option does not turn on. It used to work fine before. But now, i will be connected to a wifi network and then my phone will turn off its Wi-Fi. I try to turn it back on but it wont allow me. The problem isnt Wi-Fi networks, its the Wi-Fi option itself. I press to turn it on and it says "Turning on..." but nothing appears and it turns back off again. HELP!

Need help with getting application to work (Pokemon Go)

So. I own Alcatel One Touch, Android Version 5.1 (Lollipop), Kernel 3.10.72
I downloaded Pokemon Go just to check it out.
I enabled "Location", I enabled Wi-Fi, I disabled "Mock Location".
"Apps" says that Pokemon Go has rights to localization.
I enabled high-accuracy tracking. I enabled Google Maps in background (don't ask).
I tried disabling and then disabling GPS/tracking/connectivity etc.
I tried restarting and reinstalling. I have activated account.
My sister who is next to me owns older Android, and she apparently can play.
But I can't.

Could someone help me out? (please don't quote other websites, they all copy one another, at total there are 5 possible things I could've uniquely tried, and they all failed).

May someone be willing to assist me in this problem?

Samsung Galaxy S3 crash / Play Store error?

Over the past few weeks, my Samsung Galaxy S3 has rebooted spontaneously now and then. I also kept getting the "Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped" error.

One day about a week ago I went to set the alarm and realised that all my saved alarms had suddenly gone. I hadn't deleted them.

Today it rebooted again, but this time it was different: upon restart it was back to an older Android version and gave me tips on how to swipe up and down and use the menu etc., as if it was the first time I switched it on!

The following is still there:

- Messages, including message threads I know for a fact I deleted ages ago, but also messages from today
- Photos
- Music files

The following is missing:

- Contacts, apart from Google contacts
- All apps
- Play Store

As I only have the default Internet browser on the phone now, I couldn't fetch the Play Store directly. I downloaded the app via laptop and transferred it to the phone via USB cable. Tried to install (thankfully I could find it in My Files which was on the home screen), but was given a number of error messages that I couldn't read. Clicking them just opened a blank screen.

Once the Play Store icon appeared on the home screen, I tried opening it from there, but was asked to choose a Google account. I chose one of the two it offered me (both belong to me), but the screen flashed and once again it asked me to choose between the two. No matter which one I chose, the screen flickered and I was asked to choose an account. There's no way I could get past that screen.

I went to the app/widget screen and pressed the button in the bottom left corner. That gave me a menu in which I could choose Play Store, but clicking it doesn't work. Nothing happens.

I have a Google search bar on the home screen, but I also can't click that. It just doesn't work. Voice control is on, but also not working.

I've checked for any updates, and it says there aren't any.

I'm stuck now, running out of ideas on what to do - I don't seem able to get any apps back, and I can't update to a newer version of Android, so I'm guessing a factory reset is genuinely the only way out here.

I'm not too keen on it as I can't seem to find a way to backup my text messages without using any form of app - and I don't have any that can do that, and of course also can't download any...

Does anyone have any other ideas? Is there perhaps something I haven't thought about?

I've run this past a few friends, but no one seems to have heard of an S3 crashing this spectacularly. Some suggested it might be proper dead. It's from 2013 btw.

Help is much appreciated.

Why does my Wi-Fi option keep turning off

My Galaxy S6 has always worked fine. Recently, I had an issue with the Wi-Fi. I will be connected to my home internet with no issues, then the Wi-Fi will turn off automatically. I keep trying to turn it back on, but it won't. This bothers me since I do not want to use up all of my data when I have Wi-Fi networks at my reach. What is wrong with my phone?!

Why can't I enable voice control for my camera for Samsung Galaxy S7

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S7. According to various articles I have found online, I should be able to go into my Camera settings and set up voice control so it will take a picture when I say "Cheese" or "Smile." I was able to do this with my Galaxy S4. But on the S7 it is no longer an option - it is just not available in the Camera settings. The Verizon store people were unable to help.
